Melbourne: Day 2

@ Great Ocean Road

Our day 2 in Melbourne started as early as 6.45am where mummy took a shower to beat the morning coldness. Though it was already November when we were there, the temperature easily drop to 10celcius at night. We had our rushed cum quick free complimentary breakfast at level 6 of Greenhouse Backpacker. We hurried to Federation Square for our day tour pick up. Luckily it only took us 5mins walk to reach. Our day tour was to Great Ocean Road, Australia’s southwestern coast is arguably one of the most stunning drives in the world.

The journey stared at around 8.15am and returned past eight in the evening, making it a long, arduous journey. The coach driver was also the tour guide, this was what impressed us a lot. They not only drove us to our destination safely but also provided us clear explanation. Thumbs up!!! Emeryn fell asleep almost immediately when we left Melbourne on the cozy coach. The whole journey brought us to the road winds past verdant rolling hills, lush sub-tropical forests, dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches and Victoria’s most popular attraction: the Twelve Apostles.

Our first visit to this spectacular stretch of the Victorian coastline was unforgettable. It was freaking cold, windy day but the sun shone at times and yes the weather in Victoria is very fickle and unpredictable; just like a woman's mood. It was our first experience with such a cold weather; except daddy. We soon arrived in Torquay, a quaint seaside village; where the famous Aussie surfwear like Billabong come from. We continued to Bells Beach, a surfer’s haven, to see the big surf. Stunning scenery here: gentle, green rolling hills that end at the coast with dramatic cliffs, long stretches of sandy beaches, little coves, quaint villages and finally the vast green ocean. We made stops at numerous beaches, lookouts and other scenic spots where it allow ed us an opportunity to take plenty of happy snaps.

We passed several beautiful coastal villages along the way such as Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay. The stretch between Lorne and Apollo Bay was absolutely breathtaking. We made a brief stop at Apollo Bay, a gorgeous town packed with inns, restaurants and cafés. We stopped for lunch somewhere nearby where we had roast chicken and the infamous fish and chips.

After a long drive, we finally arrived at the Twelve Apostles; a series of limestone outcrops that had separated from the mainland due to erosion. The ocean pounded the coast with huge thunderous waves and the wind howled fiercely like a hurricane. Some passenger decided to take the helicopter to view the scenic view of Great Ocean Road but we skipped this as it was quite costly for us. When we got to the edge of the cliffs, we snapped countless of shots of the Twelve Apostles. It was breathtaking and one of the most beautiful places ever. It was stunning. Without realizing, we were on the viewing platform with the magnificent sight in front of us; the towering cliffs, the pounding waves below and the dark sky punctured by a single ray of light. Absolutely breathtaking! After the Twelve Apostles, we continued on our way to other spectacular rock formations along the coast. The most noteworthy were Razorback, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge. We fell in love instantly with the miracle God's creation. Emeryn was terrified when we strolled down to the beach as the waves was amazingly strong. She insisted us to leave and cried uncontrollably.

The coach left Great Ocean Road and headed to another smaller village where we took a quick stop before going back to Melbourne. All of us slept through the journey and arrived back in Melbourne that evening feeling totally exhausted but exhilarated. It was absolutely gorgeous and the weather was so tempting to some of us. Haha. The driver dropped us at Chinatown and daddy opted for Malaysian food just to try out the quality of the food. We had nasi rendang, nasi goreng and mee goreng. It was yummy, and above our expectation. After the heavy dinner, we walked back to the backpacker place. On our way back, we stopped by at several souvenir shops to get some souvenir home.

We took a shower right after arriving at the backpacker's and later we hung out at level 6; where the pantry was. It was a happening place there where all the youngsters gathered together over beers and tidbits. Emeryn had a good time walking around the pantry as well and caught some attention from the floor. We called it a day after passed mid-nite.
