The Gift

Janelle's birthday

the gold medalist

art project

the winning gift

Emeryn went to bed earlier than her usual bedtime on Wed as she needed to wake up early the next morning for the rehearsal of the Sports Day. We leave home at about 7.05am and reached school at 7.30am. During mummy's lunch break, she went back to the school and picked Emeryn to the daycare. Emeryn spent her afternoon at the daycare while mummy went back to work.

Finally we received our winning gift on Thurs, Barbie Fashion Design Plates. As soon as Emeryn has completed her homework and had a quick revision, she unwrapped the gift. After mummy carefully read the instruction, we started our designing project. It was fun to play with. Emeryn completed two designs the same night and wanted to proceed with the third one but mummy stopped her as it was over her bedtime.

Mummy skipped her usual Fri nite outing as we needed to wake up early on Sat for the Sports Day. The next morning, Emeryn was a bit hesitate to wake up as she wasn't feeling too well. But later she decided to be at the school. Mummy dropped her at 7.30am and picked her at 12.45pm. As soon as mummy saw Emeryn at the school, she happily showed mummy a gold medal hanging around her neck with a big smile. While walking towards the car, Emeryn excitingly relates her winning to mummy. Little that mummy knows, she participated in a telematch and grabbed a team medal, despite not being recover 100% from her fractured bone. We had our lunch before heading for the art class. Our new bed frame arrived in the afternoon. After art class, we went home for a rest before going out to the hospital to visit mummy's aunty. We went for dinner together with Ah Kong, Por Por, Ah Pak and Carmen Ee Ee at Northam Beach after the hospital visit.

On Sun morning, mummy's friend brought us out for breakfast before the air-cond guy came over to do some maintenance work. After it is fixed, we headed over to Por Por's place for our late lunch. We left almost immediately after finishing our meal as Emeryn wanted to go to Mr DIY @ Penang Times Square to get an eraser. After a long search, we did not manage to find the exact eraser she wanted but ended buying a set of key chain painting. It comes in a set of 4 and we need to paint the key chain using our own creativity. It is an inexpensive and good activity for the kids. We then hurried to Mc Donalds, GreenLane where Emeryn was invited to her classmate, Janelle's birthday. We were the first guest to arrived and we waited for at least 30minutes before the party started. After the kids finish their happy meals, it was the cake cutting ceremony followed by some games before the party adjourned. We stayed awhile for the kids to play together before going home. Emeryn enjoyed the party very much and even requested for the same arrangement on her birthday.

2months old vs 83months old

Mummy stumbled upon some of Emeryn's old photo while spring cleaning her photo folders. Emeryn was sleeping beside mummy while she was spring cleaning her stuff. She noticed this one particular baby photo of Emeryn sleeping, with the exact same bed sheet and wardrobe behind. Mummy slowly carry Emeryn to the same position in the old photo and grabbed her camera. She snapped the exact same shot for comparison. Ta da!!! That's how much Emeryn has grown over the years.

Durian Feast

we won

durian feast

School reopened after 2 weeks holiday and we have to go back to our usual routine. As Emeryn's leg has not recovered fully, mummy and daddy are still sending her to school. Her walking style has yet to go back to her pre-accident way. Mummy has to remind her from time to time to walk properly as she was so used to being a "disabled person".As for now, Emeryn is trying to do small running and even jumping.

On Tues, Toki Ee Ee bought a flight ticket to Taiwan for next year family trip. Unfortunately mummy and Emeryn won't be able to join as it is a schooling week. While on Wed, mummy received an email from the event organizer congratulating us for being one of the three winner for the Barbie Design contest and we will be getting a set of Barbie Fashion Design Plates. Yay!!! We had our dinner at Pizza Hut, Teso Egate on Thurs after school as it was raining heavily. We were unable to go outdoor for dinner. While we were driving home after dinner, we saw some tree fell on the road side, with heavy wind blowing. It was a bad thunderstorm and we only noticed the bad incident after reaching home. The beam of the state Umno headquarters fell exactly a week after the collapse of Penang's 2nd bridge. What a tragedy?

Mummy planned to print out her whole blog post and make it into a hard copy journal, knowing this project is a huge and long one. We spent our Fri nite at home. Emeryn attended GB Maths and art class on Sat. After the classes ended, we head over to the durian stall where Emeryn was given a complimentary baby durian. As usual she can't wait to savor them at home, but instead having it now and then at the stall.

We went out for breakfast the next morning and spent out our day at home until we went to Por Por's house later in the evening.

Dumpling a.k.a. bak chang

the new toy

Ah Chor

bak chang

It was the last week of school holiday and Emeryn spent full day at the daycare. On Wed, granny picked Emeryn from the daycare and brought her back to Pekaka. Mummy picked her at about 10pm as she wanted to play with Joel & Joey. She refused to go home until she fought with Joel . After fighting, she wanted to go home instead.

On Fri Emeryn wanted to stay over at Pekaka. Mummy picked her from daycare after work and granny picked Emeryn up from our home. In the evening granny brought Emeryn to Toys R Us to get her exam gift as promised. Before the visit to Toys R Us, Emery has already spotted what to buy in the newsletter.

Emeryn woke mummy up with a morning call on Sat, requesting mummy to pick her home. Mummy picked her at around 9am and we headed home before going out for her class. Mummy enrolled Emeryn in a new class, Genius Brain Math at the daycare. The class starts at 11.30am and ends at 1pm. Mummy went home while Emeryn attends the class and came back to the daycare center at 1pm. We had lunch, economy rice at the same building before heading to Art Class at 2pm. Emeryn has completed Da Vinci's Programme 8 and she is now advancing to another level. Mummy's role on Sat was being a chauffeur to Emeryn and this has to be done for at least 40weeks until GB Maths ended. Mummy picked Emeryn at 4pm and we bought some durian home. We had our durian feast at home before heading to QBM to meet mummy's ex uni-mate. We had dinner together with them at one of the patron serving porridge, Emeryn's all-time fav. After the dinner-meetup, mummy bought her hair conditioner and we headed to Popular to grab some stationary.

Our Sun morning breakfast plan nearly cancelled due to the sudden heavy rain but we ended up buying Mc Donalds breakfast meal home. Mummy's friend picked us up from our home at 10am and we only managed to order our meal via the drive-thru section. Later at home, mummy occupied herself with her blog updates while Emeryn thrown herself in front of the tv. Granny dropped by and delivered us some home-made bak chang which was her first try. We went over to Por Por's place in the evening for our usual weekly visit and we had dinner there. Ah Chor gave us some of her home-made bak chang too. It was mummy's all-time fav and she grew up having them every year. Next year, mummy wanted to learn the skills from Ah Chor.

The School Holiday Continues

breakfast before movie

the giveaways

Mummy went back to her usual work routine on Wed while Emeryn attended full day at the daycare. Granny brought Emeryn to LWE for her last follow up on Fri afternoon. To date Emeryn has yet to go back to her normal way of walking and the doctor commented "Give her another month". Mummy skipped her usual Friday dinner and drinks to recover from the post-holiday exhaustion.

Sat, was a public holiday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday. We started our day as early as 9am and we hit downtown for breakfast. Mummy stumbled upon a blog which recommends Eng Loh Coffee Shop for its infamous toast. We ordered roti taiwan (the thick toasted Benggali roti comes with layer of majerin and smooth peanut butter spread, topped with a plenty of crushed peanuts) and a butter toast with half boiled egg on top for Emeryn. After our hearty breakfast we drove over to 1st Avenue to catch a movie together. We watched Epic, the only movie suitable for Emeryn. After the movie, we shopped a bit and mummy got herself a pair of pants before having lunch at Sushi King. We went home right after the meal. At home mummy did some spring cleaning and collected 3 toys for Beena Kor Kor. We then spent the rest of the afternoon at home before sending Emeryn over to Por Por's place at 8.45pm. Mummy went out for a drinks with her girlfriends. Emeryn put up a nite at Por Por's place.

The next morning, mummy picked Emeryn from Por Por's place and we drove around downtown hunting for breakfast. It was raining and we have to cancel our cycling plan. We ended satisfying our tummies with koay teow thng and went home. Again we spent the day at home with Emeryn catching up with her fav dvds while mummy finished up her Korea photobook. We went out cycling at IJM Promenade. Mummy removed both training wheels on Emeryn's bicycle but she still can't manage it on her own. She still having fear using her injured leg. After cycling the whole stretch of the promenade, we went over to Por Por's place for dinner before going home.

Bandung & Jakarta Day 4-5

Kawah Putih

 a tour to Kopi Luwak

lunch

Jakarta city tour

We started our Day 4 as early as 7am as we wanted to cover Kawah Putih before leaving to Jakarta since we are behind our plan. The journey to Kawah Putih took us into a 2hours winding road with smooth traffic since it was a weekday. As soon as we stepped out from the car, the cold breeze blew over sending chill to our spines. Kawah Putih is so much colder than Tangkuban Perahu. Immediately Emeryn asked for her cardigan. We took the stairs up leading to the crater itself. It was an amazing breathtaking scenery and it's like a hidden treasure of Bandung. It is a turquoise-colored lake surrounded by green mountains beckons before us with a mixture of fumes and clouds very close to the surface. To actually witness Kawah Putih for the first time is simply incredible and best to visit Kawah Putih early in the morning for a clearer view before the condition gets foggy. Again we were lucky enough to witnessed a clear view of the crater. We took many photos before leaving as it is not advisable to stay long since the sulfur is very poisonous. After all the journey was well worth due to the great countryside scenery of mountains and strawberry farms.

On our way downhill, we requested our driver to have a pit-stop at the only stall offering Kopi Luwak Java Luwak Ciwidey. We ordered the infamous kopi luwak while chilling with the nice ambiance overlooking the greenery stretch of the tea plantation. Kopi means coffee in Indonesian and Luwak is a wild Asian palm civet, a fury creature that looks like a cross between a cat and a ferret. The civet climbs the coffee trees to find the best berries, eats them, digests the berries and eventually out comes the coffee beans in its stools. Farmers then pick up the civet droppings and take the beans to a processing plant. Something about the gastric juices in the civet's stomach gives Kopi Luwak its unique flavor. The processes sound a bit disgusting but nevertheless it provides deep aroma. After having our coffee, the owner brought us to where the civets were fed the beans and its excretion. The civets were caged and all of us gave a "ewww" look after seeing what we had just drank.

We then head over for lunch at one of the local restaurant, which mummy has forgotten its name. As for their tradition, we were served lunch in an individual hut and this place offers a yummylicious meals. We had a satisfying meal before head out to Jakarta. Again we were trapped in a massive jam even on the highway itself. We spent many hours on the road instead of sight seeing. What a waste. After a long tiring journey, we checked into Tune Hotel, Pasar Baru at about 6.30pm. Without delaying further, we took an angkot to Chinatown instead of asking our driver to send us there, in order to give him some rest. The vendors in Chinatown are in the midst of ending their business for the day when we reached. So we ended having our dinner at one of the food stall along an alley before heading back to our hotel. That nite we rested early.

Our last day, Tues morning we went to explore the city tour. Our first stop was the National Monument (Monas). It is a monument built to remember the struggle of Indonesian heroes fighting the colonial domination. Next was Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and has the highest capacity. Due to our time constraint, we only took some photo outside of the building. Opposite the mosque, standing tall is the Jakarta Cathedral. After a quick, not-so-complete city tour, we headed to ITC Mangga Dua, the wholesale mall. Before our shopping hunt started, we had our breakfast at the food arcade behind the mall. Mummy bought a Barbie school bag Rp75,000 and a magic pen Rp45,000 for Emeryn. We also bought the same pair of sandal too. We left ITC at 11.15am and headed to Sunda Kelapa, the Old port of Jakarta. It does not have much to offer other then a few old type vessels been loaded. It's a working port and there's basically no tourist infrastructure.

We then make our way to airport where Toki Ee Ee depart 2hours earlier than us. After dropping her at Terminal 2, we then spent 4hours at the airport, loitering around, having lunch, souvenir shopping and Ah Kong having his foot reflexology. We flew back to Penang at 5.45pm and reached Penang at 9.15pm.
