Mummy Was Away

Nothing much happened last week. Mummy was away for her company team building and Sales Convention 2014 at Lost World of Tambun. On Fri evening we drove to Por Por's place after school to bring some stuff for Por Por and Ah Kong before their Taiwan trip. We had dinner before going home.

The next morning we woke up early as mummy has to send Emeryn over to Pekaka before driving back to her office to car-pool with the rest heading to LWOT. Emeryn stayed a nite at Pekaka. At night she called mummy and cried terribly asking mummy to bring her home. She fell from the staircase and bruises her both legs. Somehow she had to self-soothe and stayed for a nite before mummy brings her back on Sun.

On Sun noon, mummy fetched her from Beena Kor Kor's place and we headed for a meal at Sunshine food court before going home.

Chap Goh Meh a.k.a. Happy Valentine's Day

with her gifts

Cosplay

CNY comes to the end on Chap Goh Meh which coincide with Valentines Day on Fri. After picking Emeryn from school, we headed to Penang Botanic Gardens for a festival which be held at Quarry Park with special highlights include the Moonlight & Love unplugged concert, the Valentine's Cosplay contest and party as well as the Yuan Xiao Jie group wedding, carnival and wedding fair. It was a 10minutes walk from where we parked our car to the Quarry Park. While walking towards the event venue, we passed through some stall selling souvenirs and snacks. We then stopped at the Cosplay site and took some photo with those cosplay animations. We had some light snacks before leaving to Esplanade.

Our main intention driving over to Esplanade was for the mandarin oranges throwing session. Emeryn was introduced to that session last year and had fun doing it, thus asking for the same session again this year. Last year we went unprepared and had to pay for the mandarin oranges. This year, mummy brought 3 mandarin oranges from home. We bumped into Ah Kong at Esplanade and later Sherine Ee Ee and her mum joined us. In Hokkien, Chap Goh Meh means the fifteenth night of Chinese New Year and marks the end of the festive season. Also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, Chap Goh Meh signifies the first full moon of the lunar new year and the act of mandarin tossing is traditionally practiced by single maidens to wish for a good husband and with hope that her true love will pick up the orange. The tradition is still practiced today, but it is more for the fun part instead of serving the origins purpose. Many families from all walks of life brought their own oranges to join in the fun. Emeryn asked for more oranges but mummy rejected her request to buy. Next year, we shall bring more oranges. There were performances and food stalls at Esplanade but we decided to leave early as it was a schooling day on the next day. We went for our late dinner at Kapitan and had the famous tandoori chicken before heading home.

We started our Sat early as mummy sent Emeryn to her trial ballet class at 9am. It was an hour lesson and Emeryn seems to enjoyed it a lot. Asked if she wants to sign up for the class, she quickly replied YES. She will probably be starting her lesson on Mac but have to skip the beginner lesson and join the existing students. We had our breakfast at Roti Bakar after the class before going home to prepare for school. It was a replacement class for CNY. While Emeryn was at the school, mummy stayed home and continued with her photoook project.

On Sun, Emeryn attended her GB Maths class at 11.30am. We had a quick breakfast before the class. We headed to QBM after the class. Mummy has promised to get Emeryn an iPad. We went to Switch and Emeryn tried on the iPad. At last mummy decided to get iPad Air with retina display 32g which cost RM1929. Finally Emeryn's dream of owning an ipad is fulfilled. Mummy also bought her sweets from Sticky. Before leaving, we had a pit stop at JCo where Emeryn had her favorite donuts. We then drove to Prangin Mall to get the iPad cover and screen protector before going over to Por Por's house for our usual Sun visit and early dinner. We then proceeded to the Art is Rubbish is Art exhibition by Ernest Zacharevic at the old Hin Bus Depot. The exhibition showcase wall murals mostly local children.

The Remaining of CNY

Mummy started working on CNY Day 4, Mon. In the morning, daddy dropped Emeryn at Por Por's place as mummy was rushing to work. After work, mummy went home for a shower before heading downtown to pick the rest out for dinner. After dinner mummy bade Emeryn farewell as she is leaving Emeryn at Por Por's for another night since no one taking care of Emeryn on Tues when mummy was at work. Before dropping the rest back home, all of us visited mummy's granny on our way home.

Emeryn spent the whole day at Por Por's house on Tues until we went out for dinner at Lip Sin. After the dinner, we bade Toki Ee Ee farewell as she was leaving for Singapore while Emeryn attended her BM tuition. During the dinner, Emeryn spotted a "unicorn" like cloud formation and shouted "Mummy, you see. It looks like an unicorn in the skies."

Schooling days went back as usual starting on Wed. Mummy dropped Emeryn at Por Por's house on Fri evening as she went out for a quick dinner with her friend. Mummy concluded her Fri evening much earlier to avoid the massive jam at the jetty since it was the Hokkien Chinese New Year and there was a huge celebration at the clan's jetty.

For Feb, mummy has temporarily stopped Emeryn from Art Class for a month until Mac. On Sat, Emeryn attended GB Maths and Karangan class from 11.30am to 2.30pm. We went for breakfast before the class. After the class we headed dowtown and met up with Aunty Grace at Sugar Honey Cafe at Campbell Street. It was more like a CNY catch up for them while Emeryn had a feast there. She had a whole plate of spaghetti bolognese, half brownie and a cuppa hot thick chocolate. The gathering ended at about 4.30pm and we headed home. Emeryn continued watching her dvd and finally took a nap at 7pm. While she was napping, mummy went to the Malay store beside our apartment and bought fried rice. At about 10pm mummy woke Emeryn up and fed her fried rice, before she went back to sleep.

On Sun, we went out for brunch at Kopitan and Emeryn suddenly voiced up that she is keen into learning ballet. After our brunch, we dropped by at the Elizabeth Dance Academy where mummy inquired further while Emeryn monitoring the the kids in the class. We then spent our afternoon at home before meeting Por Por at the wedding shop at downtown. Mummy helped Theng Ee Ee to survey for her big day which falls on May. We then went over to Por Por's house for dinner before going home.

Happy Horsey Chinese New Year

CNY Eve

reunion lunch on 1st day of CNY

2nd day of CNY @ Chew Jetty

3rd day of CNY @ Ipoh

Wed was the last day of school in view of the CNY celebration. Mummy had to work half day on Thurs and sent Emeryn to Pekaka before going to work. Mummy's office closed at 12.30pm and she headed to Sunshine Square to get a quilt set. Mummy also bought a new shirt for Ah Kong and a bottle of red wine for Ah Ma. After her shopping, she picked Emeryn from Pekaka. We went home for a rest before changing into our cheongsam for the reunion dinner at Por Por's house. We had steamboat for our reunion dinner along with Carmen Ee Ee and her family. After the dinner we stopped by at mummy's granny place for a short gathering with her fellow cousins. We were too full for another round of food but just had the "lou sang" session before leaving for our movie date. We headed to 1st Avenue and watch The Journey. It was a very meaningful movie, which shoot locally. We went home straight after the movie.

We started our 1st day of CNY slightly late. We had another round of reunion meal, but it was reunion lunch instead at Penang Golf Club. Our reservation was at 1pm but Carmen Ee Ee and her family showed up late, at about 2pm. We waited with empty stomach. We started off with another round of "lou sang" session before we were served the main course. It was an eight course meal and in the middle of the meal, we were entertained by the lion dance. After lunch, we headed to mummy's granny place for our CNY visit. Later we gathered at Por Por's place along with Sherine Ee Ee and the rest. We planned for another round of movie. Therefore mummy and Sherine Ee Ee went to 1st Avenue to check out the movie ticket. They both rode motorbike to avoid the traffic jam and Emeryn tagged along. Unfortunately the movie tickets were running out and we were unable to get one for the same evening. Instead we bought a movie ticket for the next day screening. Out of nothing to do, Sherine Ee Ee suggested that we go for a drink. We went to Five27, a relatively new hang out spot. It offers superb ambiance for dining and drinking. The place was very relaxing and we had a game of pool before leaving.

On the 2nd day of CNY we went to Than Siang temple to offer prayers from mummy's grandparents. We then headed for a movie at 1st Avenue, entitled Hello Babies. Emeryn absolutely enjoyed the show. After the show we had a meal at New World Park before going over to Chew Jetty for a family photo shoot. It was our second year doing CNY family photo shoot. We revisit last year CNY shoot and snapped exactly the same photo again for comparison. We had many fun moment together snapping the photo as a family. We adjourned at about 7.30pm and went home.

Whilst on the 3rd day of CNY we drove to Ipoh to pay mummy's uncle a visit and had another gathering with mummy's relatives. Mummy's aunty and her family from KL also meet us at Ipoh for a CNY gathering. This year we had a full participation for all the family members. To make things more remarkable, we went back to the same spot and shoot the same photo which mummy had during her childhood years. Initially we planned to go for a coffee but it was fully booked. So we settled down for hawker meals instead. We had dinner at mummy's aunty house before driving home. It was a tiring day trip but it was surely a memorable celebration for us. We reached Penang at about 10.15pm and called it a night after sending Por Por and Ah Kong home.
