The Short Hair Mama & Daughter

the belated birthday gift

On Mon, Emeryn received her belated birthday gift, a tablet (Ainol Novo 7 Tornado) from a friend of mummy. She excitedly trying on the games as soon as mummy handed over the tablet to her when picking her from the daycare. Obviously Emeryn is not a game-addict, as she don't glue the tablet to herself all the time. That's a good news for mummy indeed.

While on Thur morning, mummy needed to be at Eastin Hotel at 7.30am for a company event. Mummy dropped Emeryn at Aunty Mei's place so that she could chauffeur Emeryn to school along with Flo. Emeryn tagged along with mummy to her monthly gathering at 1881 Chong Tian Hotel. It has two different section, Chinese & Western and we opted for the Western section by utilizing the online food voucher we bought. One gets transported back in time the moment you walk in the door of the refurbished pre-war house which was once a thriving hotel in the late 1800s. The interior is surrounded by rich vintage furnishings, beautifully carved wooden doors, colorful fabrics, carpets, hand-carved tables and chairs, Venetian mirrors and intricate Chinese motifs of dragons and peonies. It was a very worthy meal but mummy can't finish it since she had a heavy meal prior to the dinner.

On Fri, mummy dropped Emeryn at Por Por's house while she went out for a short drinks with her friend before picking Emeryn at 11pm. As usual Emeryn attended Art Class on Sat morning. Emeryn had porridge for her lunch before mummy went to the hair salon. Mummy decided to change a new hairstyle after years of keeping her long hair. Finally mummy had her hair above shoulder and at the very last moment, Emeryn decided to cut her hair too. At first mummy refused to let her cut it short but Emeryn insisted, so mummy gave in. She even requested for a shorter fringe. Well, after all she still look prettier in long hair. We had our family dinner together with Carmen Ee Ee and her family at Weld Quay Restaurant or better known as choo char under a tree. After the sumptuous dinner, we went to the Bon Odori festival. It was a pathetic traffic jam but luckily we managed to secure a car park right opposite the site. The phone reception was bad, thus we couldn't contact the rest and ended all of us scattered around. We walked around and waited for the fireworks before heading home.

Emeryn went to Pekaka on Sun noon and spent few hours there before mummy picked her at about 6pm. We then went to Por Por's house for dinner.

The Heritage Stroll

fishing trip

the heritage walk

@ chai diam ma

July 7th was Penang's Heritage Day and also Penangites celebrating the Georgetown festival from 15th June to 15th July. It was a month long celebration showcasing the cultural heritage and the living of Penang.

On Fri evening, after picking Emeryn from daycare we headed to Prangin Mall to shop for a tablet, Ainol Novo 7 Tornado. It's gonna be a birthday gift to Emeryn from mummy's friend. After surveying the price and its spec, we had our dinner at the infamous tom yam stall. Before heading home, we drove around to look for all the wall murals. Emeryn gotten very excited seeing those murals. We found all of them before dropping at Por Por's house to pass the camera to ah Kong.

We had our breakfast at home before going out for lunch on Sat noon. We spent the afternoon at home before going out at 4pm. We picked Aunty SuChing and You Ying at QEII and we headed over to our first destination, Chew Jetty. Aunty Mei and Flo were late, so we started our heritage stroll before they join us later. Chew Jetty, an old Chinese waterfront settlement, is the largest and most lively jetty at the end of Gat Lebuh Armenian. We snapped many photo of the mural at the village. It was drawn by the famous artist, Ernest Zacharevic. The scenery was breath taking.

We then proceeded to Armenian Street where Aunty Mei & Flo joined us. We visited the Rescube and also the next mural featuring a little girl and boy riding on a bicycle. We continued with our heritage stroll passing by some heritage look-alike restaurant, shops selling art & craft and other paintings. We then came across the next mural featuring a boy trying to get hold of something by reaching the window. Our last mural photo shoot was a man riding on a motorbike and a little boy playing with a flying kite. Though it was a short stroll, we were sweating under the sun. It was a real historic stroll and we could finally see Penang from a different angle. We didn't managed to go for a trishaw stroll. We decided to stopped and went for dinner.

We went to Chai Diam Ma. Chai Diam Ma means ‘little sundry shop’ in Hokkien, the lingua franca of Penang. The shop is peppered with knick knacks from top to bottom. Most furnitures were rescued from being dumped into landfills and were given a coat of paint or adored with drawings. It was a real unique experience being able to dine there especially showing the young kids the real culture behind. Before our food were served, we snapped some photo and enjoyed the surrounding and its decoration.

After dinner, Emeryn followed Aunty Mei's car while mummy went to pick Aunty Jenny, Hui Ying and Hui Siang, where we went for a happy hour at Bossa Vino. The kids played among themselves whereas the mommies enjoyed their drinks and chat at the other segment. We left at about 10pm and dropped Aunty SuChing, Aunty Jenny and the kids home. Emeryn fell asleep on our way home.

Happy 6th Birthday, Emeryn

1st celebration @ Trinity

2nd celebration @ daycare

3rd celebration @ Sweet 16

4th celebration @ Eden

Finally lil' cheeky is officially 6 on 8th July 2012. My lil' precious has grown up so much and I'm glad I've witnessed each and every of her growing up moments and even captured all those precious moments to be stored forever. Last week was all about celebration, celebration and celebration.

We went to the cake house on Thurs evening and collected both the cakes, Angry Bird and Smurf. We had dinner prior to collecting the cakes. Both cakes were nicely done. Mummy prepared some pudding and jelly a night before for the birthday celebration at Trinity and she took a day off on Fri. Mummy sent Emeryn to school on Fri morning as usual and rushed home to have the nuggets readied. Mummy and daddy went to the school at 9.30am and we started to set up everything for the party. Ms Lee, the class teacher was very kind to allow us to have about an hour for the whole celebration. We even snapped the class photo. It was indeed a fun and great celebration. Mummy went home after that and Emeryn attended daycare as usual.

Later in the evening, mummy went over to daycare bringing the second cake for the second celebration. It was a quick celebration since the tuition class was still running. Emeryn received 2 gifts from Teacher Joanne & Kakak Siti. We headed home after the celebration. Later mummy dropped Emeryn at Por Por's place while she went out and had dinner & drinks with her friend before fetching Emeryn at 11.30pm.

There was no Art Class on last Sat, since it was Penang's Heritage Day. We spent the morning at home before going out for our late lunch. We also bought home durian but it wasn't that good. Later in the evening, Beena Kor Kor came and picked Emeryn to Pekaka. Initially Emeryn wanted to stay over at Pekaka but later at nite, decided to come home instead. She called mummy a few times from Pekaka ever since knowing mummy's mobile number and told mummy how much she misses mummy. Finally Emeryn decided not to stay over and asked mummy to fetch her home.

Our 3rd celebration was on Sun noon along with Aunty Mei and Florence. We went to Sweet 16 and Aunty Mei presented her a mini teapot set where the two cheeky buddies paint it after their meals. They were busy posing away with the huge Hello Kitty and we took many photos. After the lunch and painting, we headed over to 1st Avenue to catch The Madagascar 4. Before the movie starts, we shopped around and finally found a black covered shoe for Emeryn's graduation photo. Luckily Emeryn enjoyed the movie. We grabbed a slice of cake from Bread History before meeting daddy at Eden for dinner. Our dinner was the 4th celebration. We left after dinner.
